13 Life-Changing Hacks For Curly Hair

Wrap the sink before detangling hair. No more washbasin clogs. To avoid breakage and preserve curl shape, detangle hair with fingers or a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush.

1.

Avoid starting at the roots when combing or brushing your hair.   Knots at the ends are easier to comb first.

2.

Apply a deep conditioner to your hair, tuck it into a shower cap, and wash your body before washing your hair. Steam from the shower helps retain moisture.

3.

You can make your own cleansing conditioner by mixing a little sulfate-free shampoo with a lot of conditioner. This will gently wash your hair while deeply moisturising it.

4.

To avoid fluffy hair, skip shampoo and try "co-washing" with conditioner once a week or as needed if you have extra dry hair.

5.

Without oil or moisture, your hair doesn't need shampoo. Apply conditioner and comb it through your hair in the shower instead of after you dry it.

6.

Don't rinse out all the conditioner when washing your hair.   You can leave conditioner in your hair. Get all the moisture your curly ends need.

7.

A T-shirt instead of a towel can wring out water after washing hair to prevent tangles and frizz. Towels absorb too much water and moisture from hair, causing frizz instead of just excess water. A T-shirt will also smooth your curls and prevent matting.

8.

Try "pineappling" your hair in a loose bun or ponytail on top of your head while drying it. This stops gravity from pulling curls and frizzing them.

9.

Leave-in conditioner with gel or cream moisturises and shapes curls. Scrunch and twist the product into damp hair, then air dry or style.

10.

Coconut oil can be used as a deep conditioner before showering or on the ends of dry hair for shine. Apply hair oil after styling to avoid crunchy curls.

11.

Spray the ends of your hair with half water and half leave-in conditioner and scrunch or style as usual to revive curls.   This works for days between washes.

12.

Apply deep conditioner before putting your hair in a ponytail or bun for exercise. Workout heat locks in moisture for soft curls. Rinse the deep conditioner and shower after working out.
