Apple Fritters With Speculaas Spice Recipe

Enjoy fall with Speculaas Spice Apple Fritters. This simple recipe makes warm, crispy snacks in 30 minutes.  Speculaas spice in the batter and sugar coating adds more flavour than cinnamon and can be used anytime gingerbread spice is needed.    

INGREDIENTS

Speculaas Spice 5 tablespoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cloves ½ teaspoon ground aniseed ½ teaspoon white pepper ½ teaspoon ground coriander seed ½ teaspoon ground ginger ½ teaspoon ground cardamom Apple Fritters 2 cups diced apples, peeled or unpeeled 1 large egg 1 ⅓ cups beer, water or milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 ¾ cup flour (245 grams) ¼ cup granulated sugar (50 grams) 1 tablespoon baking powder ½ teaspoon speculaas spice ¼ teaspoon salt Canola oil as needed Speculaas Sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon speculaas spice

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP-1

Specialty Spice and Sugar Mix all ingredients in a small jar.  Put the jar cap on. Shake the jar hard to combine.  

STEP-2

Stir sugar and speculaas spice until combined.  Set aside. Yield: ⅓ cup Apple Fritters Cut the apple into ⅓ inch dice.  Set aside.   

STEP-3

Mix the egg. Add vanilla and stir.     Add beer, water, or milk and whisk.  

STEP-4

Add flour, sugar, baking powder, spice, and salt.  Smoothen with whisk.           Mix in apples.    

STEP-5

Add 1 to ½ inch of oil to a medium-sized frying pan and heat to 350°F.    Drop heaping teaspoons of batter and cook till golden brown.   

STEP-6

Flip and cook again.  It will take 2 minutes per side. Roll in speculaas sugar after draining on paper towels.
