Classic Swiss Patty Melt Recipe

Have you ever wondered how burgers and patty melts differ? Cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onions may be added to a hamburger bun.

Ingredient

– 1 pound ground beef – 1 teaspoon salt – ½ teaspoon pepper – 6 tablespoons salted butter, divided – 1 red onion, cut in half and sliced – 8 slices of Swiss cheese – 8 slices of rye bread

Direction

Add meat, salt, and pepper to a medium bowl. Mix the spices into the meat and make 4 patties with your hands.

Over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons butter to a large skillet. Mix in the onion after melting.

Sauté onions for 15–20 minutes, stirring periodically, until caramelized.

Each piece of bread should have a quarter of a spoonful of butter spread on the outside of it.

Cook patties for 5 minutes on each side over medium heat. Take the patties from the skillet.

In the same skillet, place 4 butter-side-down bread pieces. Next, add a burger, caramelized onions, another piece of cheese, and another slice of bread, butter side up, to each bread slice.

Remove sandwiches from pan and serve after 3 minutes on each side to crisp and toast bread.
