Homemade Stovetop Mac and Cheese Recipe

Our family favorite One Pot Mac and Cheese is done in 30 minutes on the stove with 4 cheeses! The creamy cheese sauce and elbow macaroni make this meal warm and tasty.  

– 1 box (16 oz) elbow macaroni – 4 tablespoons butter – 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour – 1½ cups whole milk – 1/2 cup heavy cream – 4 ounces cream cheese – 4 ounces mild cheddar cheese shredded – 4 ounces monterey jack cheese shredded – 1/3 cup freshly shredded parmesan cheese – 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Boil pasta water in a big pot over high heat. Add uncooked pasta to boiling water and cook to package instructions.

Drain the pasta in a colander and rinse under cold water. Reserve it. Add butter and flour to the same saucepan over medium-high heat.

Whisk often as it melts. After mixing and melting the butter, whisk consistently for 2-3 minutes until it forms a thick paste.

Step 3

Whisk continually as you slowly add the whole milk and heavy cream until incorporated. Wait 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Step 4

Mix in the cream cheese until smooth.  4-ounce cream cheese Each handful of shredded cheese should be added slowly and mixed well until smooth.

Step 5

Mix with kosher salt. Stir the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated. Serve now.
