– 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling out bun – 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – 1 teaspoon kosher salt – 3/4 cup milk, warmed (See Kelly's Note) – 2 Tablespoons olive oil – 1 large egg white, mixed with 1 Tablespoon water – Sesame seeds, for topping (optional)

Mix flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt in a large bowl. Mix the milk and olive oil with a spatula.

Step 1

After lightly flouring your work area, turn out the dough and knead it for 1 minute until it becomes a smooth ball. (Do not overknead dough.)

Step 2

Rest the dough for 15 minutes under a moist towel. Preheat the oven to 400°F before baking. Parchment a baking sheet.

Step 4

Brush egg white wash on bun tops and sprinkle sesame seeds (optional). Bake the buns 18–22 minutes until golden brown and no longer doughy. Slice and serve the buns after cooling from the oven.
