Spice Bars Recipe 

Spice Bars are one of those great recipes where you create the base, press it into a pan, add a few more ingredients to the reserved quantity, pour it on top, and bake.  Nothing's simpler.   

INGREDIENTS

– 3 ounces pecans (85 grams or 3 ounces) – 2 cups all-purpose flour (280 grams or 10 ounces) – 1 teaspoon baking powder – ½ teaspoon salt – ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (114 grams or 4 ounces) – ⅓ cup golden syrup – 1 ⅔ cup brown sugar (320 grams or 11 ¼ ounces) – 1 teaspoon cinnamon – 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper – 1 teaspoon clove – 1 teaspoon nutmeg – ½ cup milk – 1 large egg – 1 teaspoon baking soda

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP-1

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Roast pecans for 7–9 minutes on parchment-lined baking sheets until fragrant and lightly browned. Cool completely.  Roughly chopped.  

STEP-2

Line the bottom of a 9x9" square baking pan with 9x16" parchment. Display extra on two sides.  Non-stick spray parchment and pan sides.  Set aside.  

STEP-3

Put flour, baking powder, salt, butter, sugar, and golden syrup in a paddle-equipped mixer bowl.  

STEP-4

Mix to crumbs. Evenly press 2 ½ cups (400 grammes or 14 ounces) of crumbs into the pan bottom.  Set aside. 

STEP-5

Spice the bowl's crumbs with cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, and nutmeg. Put nuts on top. Mix briefly. 

STEP-6

Egg, baking soda, and milk in a small container. Carefully pour it into the crumb mixture while the machine runs.  Scrape as needed.  

STEP-7

Bake till rich golden brown and firm, 35–40 minutes.  Slightly smaller sides. A clean exam.  

STEP-8

In-pan chill.  Go around the pan to release the cake.  Cut 6 across and 3 down right side up.Make 18 Love BarsStorage: 3–5 days in an airtight tin at room temp.
