8 Earth-Friendly Uses and Benefits of Vinegar in Laundry

Vinegar is a useful and eco-friendly home item that can make doing laundry easier in a number of ways. Here are eight eco-friendly ways to use vinegar in your laundry.

Instead of using environmentally hazardous commercial fabric softeners, add 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar to the dispenser or rinse cycle. Vinegar decreases static and softens textiles naturally.

1. Fabric Softener Replacement

Vinegar deodorizes garments naturally. For fresh-smelling clothes, add 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle.

2. Natural Deodorizer

Various stains can be treated using vinegar. Before washing, apply undiluted white vinegar to sweat, coffee, and tea stains. Wait a few minutes before washing your normal way.

3. Stain Remover

Rinse laundry with 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar to brighten colors. This keeps colors vivid and prevents fading.

4. Color Brightener

White vinegar disinfects lightly. Clothing bacteria and germs can be killed. Add 1/2 to 1 cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle for fresh laundry.

5. Laundry Disinfectant

Rinsing garments with white vinegar reduces lint and pet hair. It breaks down and loosens fibers for easier washing.

6. Lint and Pet Hair Removal

Soap and detergent residues can dull and stiffen garments over time. Vinegar in the rinse cycle removes soap residue, making clothes cleaner and softer.

7. Soap Residue Remover

Clean and deodorize your front-loading washer using vinegar. Remove soap scum, mineral deposits, and odors using an empty cycle and 1-2 cups of white vinegar. Maintaining machine efficiency is also possible.
