INSTRUCTIONS

STEP-1

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan. Mix softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until frothy.

STEP-2

Add egg and molasses and mix well. Sift flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate dish.

STEP-3

Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture slowly, alternating with hot water. Mix well and smoothly. Add batter to loaf pan and smooth top with spatula.

STEP-4

Place in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick put into the centre comes out clean.

STEP-5

While gingerbread bakes, make orange sauce. In a small saucepan, mix orange juice, sugar, and zest. Simmer on medium.

STEP-6

Mix cornflour and water in a small bowl until smooth. Gradually stir cornflour into simmering orange juice. Stir frequently until the sauce thickens, 2-3 minutes. Stop cooking and set aside.

STEP-7

Remove the gingerbread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. Orange sauce drizzled gingerbread slices can be served warm or room temperature.
